The Centre for Renewable Energy was established in 2002 under the directorship of Larry Staudt, a lecturer at Dundalk IT.  Larry, originally from the USA, had a long history in the wind industry, from the early wind farms in the 1980s when he worked for Enertech designing turbines, through working with ESB and Eirtricity (to become Airtricity) before starting with Dundalk RTC.  Wind energy was always high on the agenda, and we have included energy storage, wave energy, bioenergy, solar energy and grid integration and economics to the list over the years.  For a fuller article on this topic please see this recent article by the current director of CREDIT, Dr. Thomas Dooley
